Apiary Supervisor Needed in Benoit Apiaries Ltd. in Girouxville, AB

An experienced and committed Apiary Supervisor is needed to join Benoit Apiaries Ltd.’s team. People who are enthusiastic about beekeeping and honey production have a great potential to assume a leadership position in a reputable apiary. As an Apiary Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing honey output, maintaining hive health, and managing daily beekeeping operations in an outdoor, rural environment.

Experience caring for hives, extracting honey, and working directly with honey bees are necessary for this role. The chosen applicant will be in charge of overseeing a small group of workers, maintaining beekeeping supplies, and making sure our colonies are healthy overall. Keeping a fruitful and sustainable honey farm will be greatly aided by your knowledge of apiary management.

Job Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in beekeeping or apiary management.
  • Strong knowledge of honey bee biology, diseases, and pest management.
  • Experience in honey harvesting, extraction, and farm equipment operation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Experience supervising small teams (1-2 workers).
  • Ability to maintain beekeeping equipment and machinery.
  • Understanding of biosecurity measures to protect bee colonies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations in the apiary, ensuring efficiency and productivity.
  • Managed and maintained honey bee colonies, ensuring their health and sustainability.
  • Supervise and train farm workers in beekeeping practices and safety protocols.
  • Detect and manage bee diseases and pests, implementing preventive measures.
  • Operate and maintain farm equipment, including forklifts and honey extraction systems.
  • Oversee the honey extraction process and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Treat bees with antibiotics as needed and ensure compliance with health regulations.
  • Maintain the bee yard and all beekeeping equipment.
  • Monitor environmental conditions to optimize honey production.
  • Ensure compliance with local and national agricultural regulations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist with research and implementation of sustainable beekeeping practices.
  • Keep detailed records of hive performance, disease control, and honey production.
  • Collaborate with agricultural specialists to improve colony health and productivity.
  • Manage inventory and order necessary beekeeping supplies.
  • Educate and train new employees in advanced beekeeping techniques.
  • Assist in farm expansion projects and the adoption of innovative apiary technologies.
  • Work with management to improve efficiency and profitability of operations.
