Alberta-based Future Farms is looking for a committed and seasoned beef cattle farmer to join our team. Hands-on participation in everyday farm tasks, such as keeping an eye on the health of the cattle, maintaining farm equipment, and helping with the calving process, is necessary for this role. You will be in charge of managing feeding schedules, making sure pasture conditions are ideal, and putting best practices in beef cattle farming into action. Job Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
- 3 to 5 years of experience in beef cattle farming
- Strong knowledge of livestock health, feeding programs, and calving procedures
- Experience operating farm equipment, including tractors and feeding systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle for transportation
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and early mornings
Responsibilities
- Supervise and perform daily farm operations related to beef cattle care and maintenance
- Monitored cattle health, identified illnesses, and administered necessary treatments
- Oversee the calving process, ensuring proper care and assistance when needed
- Prepare and maintain clean, dry calving areas
- Fed and water livestock according to scheduled programs
- Maintain and repair farm equipment, fences, and buildings to ensure operational efficiency
- Perform general farm duties, including clearing brush and debris
- Prepare cattle for exhibition and maintain grooming activities
- Operate tractors, feeding systems, and other essential farm machinery
Other Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and implementing sustainable farming practices
- Manage and monitor pasture conditions for optimal livestock feeding
- Train and oversaw farm workers to ensure best practices in cattle farming
- Maintained accurate records of livestock health, feeding schedules, and farm activities
- Participate in farm expansion projects and technological upgrades
- Work closely with veterinarians and suppliers to ensure cattle receive proper care
- Assist in budgeting and financial planning for farm operations
- Implement waste management procedures to maintain hygiene and sustainability
