Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Genuine Passion for Support Work: Must be eager to support and empower people with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling lives.
• Communication and Networking Skills: Ability to build relationships with clients, staff, and external agencies to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Previous Experience: Professional experience in intellectual disability support is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Driver’s License: A full driver’s license is required for this role.
• Basic Computer Skills: Must be comfortable with basic data entry and documentation.
• Work Visa Requirement: Applicants on a work visa must ensure at least 12 months of validity.
• Interview Availability: Candidates must be available for an in-person interview in Lower Hutt.

Responsibilities

As a Community Support Worker, your main responsibilities will include:

• Engaging with clients to help them set and achieve personal goals.
• Encouraging client participation in day-to-day activities at home and within the community.
• Supporting activities of daily living, including cooking, cleaning, and maintaining hygiene.
• Assisting with medication management while ensuring client needs are met.
• Providing personal care support to clients with intellectual disabilities.
• Facilitating social and whanau (family) connections to promote inclusion and belonging.
• Motivating and empowering clients to lead a meaningful life filled with purpose.
• Accurately documented client progress and maintained records as required.
• Creating a safe and positive environment where clients feel valued and respected.
