South Pacific Meats (SPM) is looking for a highly skilled Engineering Manager to join its operations in Christchurch City, Canterbury, New Zealand. This full-time, permanent role offers an attractive salary range of $120K – $150K annually, making it a great opportunity for experienced professionals in the engineering field.

As a key member of the Site Management Team, the Engineering Manager will play a crucial role in managing plant assets, leading a team of engineers (mechanical and electrical), and ensuring smooth operations across the plant. Job Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must have:

  • Relevant engineering qualifications and/or extensive experience in a similar role.
  • A strong leadership background with the ability to manage and motivate teams.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing facility, preferably in a hygienic food production environment.
  • Expertise in preventative maintenance and familiarity with CMMS systems (MEX is preferred but not essential).
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, coupled with effective planning abilities.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving with a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel and Word for reporting and documentation.
  • A commitment to workplace health and safety standards, with knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015, is an advantage.
  • Additional certifications such as confined space and working-at-heights training are beneficial.
  • Eligibility to live and work in New Zealand is required.

Key Responsibilities

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing a team of mechanical and electrical engineers.
  • Maintaining plant assets to ensure minimal production downtime.
  • Coordinating maintenance activities across the plant to support efficient production.
  • Collaborating with the Group Engineering Manager and Improvement Engineers to implement plant improvement projects.
  • Developing and fostering a strong team culture within the maintenance department.
  • Managing costs and resources effectively, ensuring budget alignment.
  • Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards.
  • Maintaining strong cross-functional relationships with different departments.
