Lodge Chef Needed at Queenstown Resort College – Paihia Campus

Queenstown Resort College (QRC) – Paihia Campus is seeking a talented Lodge Chef to join their team at the Halls of Residence. If you have a passion for food and enjoy creating high-quality meals in a welcoming environment, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

This role offers a change of pace from the demands of a full-service kitchen while still allowing you to showcase your culinary skills.
As a Lodge Chef, you will take sole charge of the kitchen, overseeing operations and ensuring the smooth delivery of lunch and dinner (Tuesday – Saturday) for up to 100 students, aged 18-24, from across New Zealand and beyond.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cooking, an innovative approach to menu planning, and the ability to cater to a variety of dietary needs. This position is an opportunity to be part of a category 1 tertiary education provider that specializes in Tourism and Hospitality Business Management Qualifications.

You will play a key role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and safe community for students while maintaining a high standard of food quality and service.

Job Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Proven experience as a chef, preferably in a similar environment
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and experience implementing a food control plan
  • Ability to design and execute seasonal, nutritious menus
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and take full ownership of the kitchen operations
  • Experience catering to diverse dietary requirements
  • Must have the right to work in New Zealand
  • Completion of a police vetting process is required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee kitchen operations and ensure the timely preparation of meals
  • Plan and execute lunch and dinner menus from Tuesday to Saturday
  • Source ingredients, manage food stock, and place orders as needed
  • Create seasonal and innovative meal plans that cater to student needs
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain hygiene standards
  • Organize and manage termly events that require catering
  • Foster positive interactions with students, ensuring a welcoming dining experience
