Victoria University of Wellington is currently seeking an experienced Practice Nurse to join their Mauri Ora – Student Health and Counselling team. This is a part-time, contract-based role designed for a dedicated and compassionate nurse who wants to contribute to student healthcare in a diverse and rewarding environment.
As a Practice Nurse, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including General Practitioners (GPs), Nurses, Counsellors, Health Improvement Practitioners, and Health Coaches. You will play a crucial role in providing high-quality primary care services, addressing students’ healthcare needs, and supporting their overall well-being.

To be considered for the Practice Nurse role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Extensive experience in a primary healthcare setting.
Proficiency in triage and acute assessment to determine urgent healthcare needs.
Experience in sexual health and contraception (preferred but not required).
Understanding of Māori and Pasifika health practices (advantageous).
A current Annual Practicing Certificate from the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
Competence in using Primary Care Medical Records Software.
Strong empathy and a desire to support students’ mental and physical health.
Passion for working with young adults and diverse student populations.
Must pass a police vetting process under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality primary healthcare services to students.
Assess acute medical needs and provide appropriate triage.
Work collaboratively with GPs, Counsellors, Nurse Practitioners, and Health Coaches to provide holistic care.
Support students’ sexual and reproductive health needs.
Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with health regulations.
Contribute to a supportive, inclusive, and student-focused healthcare environment.
Educate students on health, wellness, and preventive care measures.
