Victoria University of Wellington is currently seeking an experienced Practice Nurse to join their Mauri Ora – Student Health and Counselling team. This is a part-time, contract-based role designed for a dedicated and compassionate nurse who wants to contribute to student healthcare in a diverse and rewarding environment.
As a Practice Nurse, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including General Practitioners (GPs), Nurses, Counsellors, Health Improvement Practitioners, and Health Coaches. You will play a crucial role in providing high-quality primary care services, addressing students’ healthcare needs, and supporting their overall well-being.

Job Requirements
To be considered for the Practice Nurse role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Extensive experience in a primary healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in triage and acute assessment to determine urgent healthcare needs.
- Experience in sexual health and contraception (preferred but not required).
- Understanding of Māori and Pasifika health practices (advantageous).
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate from the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
- Competence in using Primary Care Medical Records Software.
- Strong empathy and a desire to support students’ mental and physical health.
- Passion for working with young adults and diverse student populations.
- Must pass a police vetting process under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality primary healthcare services to students.
- Assess acute medical needs and provide appropriate triage.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, Counsellors, Nurse Practitioners, and Health Coaches to provide holistic care.
- Support students’ sexual and reproductive health needs.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with health regulations.
- Contribute to a supportive, inclusive, and student-focused healthcare environment.
- Educate students on health, wellness, and preventive care measures.
