Job Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Structural Engineer.
  • Demonstrated expertise in civil construction, particularly in reinforced concrete infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of construction standards, regulations, and best practices, specifically for bridges, wharves, water treatment plants, storage tanks, and pipelines.
  • Proven experience managing major civil D&C construction projects with familiarity with NZS3916 and the Construction Contracts Act.
  • Experience using project management software such as MS Project or Primavera.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects at once.
  • Excellent leadership abilities, with a track record of managing teams and subcontractors.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills to tackle on-site challenges efficiently.
  • Financial acumen, with a focus on cost control and subcontractor management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Engineer – Structures will be responsible for the following:

  • Leading and managing civil construction projects, ensuring timely and quality execution.
  • Collaborating with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth workflow and problem resolution.
  • Monitoring and managing project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Conducting regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and project specifications.
  • Identifying and addressing on-site challenges to maintain project progress and quality.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to project teams.
  • Keeping detailed and accurate project documentation, including reports and records.
