Job Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Current practicing license in the electricity industry
- Proven technical experience in high-voltage substations
- Proficiency in Omicron or similar test equipment
- Ability to test protection relays, current transformers, voltage transformers, and power transformers
- A relevant trade qualification, Diploma, or NZCE (or equivalent)
- Current Work Place Competency (WTC) as required for the role
- Experience in underground cable testing and cable identification (preferred but not mandatory)
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- High level of computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A clean, full New Zealand driver’s license
- Willingness to comply with safety regulations and company policies
Key Responsibilities
The Substations Power Technician will be responsible for:
- Planning and agreeing on work objectives with management
- Scoping jobs effectively, identifying environmental and technical factors
- Ensuring all plant and equipment are compliant and in good working condition
- Assisting in estimating and pricing works to ensure accurate cost assessments
- Interpreting technical drawings and specifications when required
- Conducting audits and quality checks to maintain high standards
- Providing clear job methodologies and guidance to on-site teams
- Exploring cost-saving and improvement opportunities
- Completing and submitting detailed technical reports
