Job Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Current practicing license in the electricity industry
  • Proven technical experience in high-voltage substations
  • Proficiency in Omicron or similar test equipment
  • Ability to test protection relays, current transformers, voltage transformers, and power transformers
  • A relevant trade qualification, Diploma, or NZCE (or equivalent)
  • Current Work Place Competency (WTC) as required for the role
  • Experience in underground cable testing and cable identification (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • High level of computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A clean, full New Zealand driver’s license
  • Willingness to comply with safety regulations and company policies

Key Responsibilities

The Substations Power Technician will be responsible for:

  • Planning and agreeing on work objectives with management
  • Scoping jobs effectively, identifying environmental and technical factors
  • Ensuring all plant and equipment are compliant and in good working condition
  • Assisting in estimating and pricing works to ensure accurate cost assessments
  • Interpreting technical drawings and specifications when required
  • Conducting audits and quality checks to maintain high standards
  • Providing clear job methodologies and guidance to on-site teams
  • Exploring cost-saving and improvement opportunities
  • Completing and submitting detailed technical reports
