Swine Technician (Full-Time) Needed to Join Pure Pork Farms Ltd. in Mount Albion, PE

Pure Pork Farms Ltd. is seeking a passionate Swine Technician to join our team. This position allows you to work in a hands-on, fast-paced agricultural environment where you will be responsible for monitoring animal health, assisting with swine breeding operations, and assuring adequate livestock care. As a Swine Technician, you will play a critical part in ensuring the health and productivity of our swine herd, as well as contributing to overall farm efficiency.

You will be needed to manage daily animal care, track feed inventories, and operate farm equipment while adhering to industry standards. Job Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in swine farm operations.
  • Experience in handling livestock, monitoring animal health, and performing swine-specific tasks.
  • Familiarity with farm machinery, automated feeding, and environmental control systems.
  • Strong understanding of biosecurity and farm safety procedures.
  • Physical capability to perform demanding tasks in a farm setting.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain swine health, identifying and addressing any health concerns.
  • Perform essential pig littering tasks, including clipping needle teeth, tail docking, administering iron and other medications, and castration.
  • Collect boar semen and support breeding operations.
  • Track and report on feed inventory, ensuring adequate nutrition for livestock.
  • Operate and maintain farm machinery, including feeding and watering systems, tractors, and manure spreaders.
  • Feed and tend to animals while maintaining high standards of animal welfare.
  • Clean and sanitize stables, barns, barnyards, and pens to ensure proper hygiene.
  • Detect and report disease or health problems in livestock.
  • Supervise and train 1 to 2 farm workers.
  • Write basic daily progress reports on animal health and farm activities.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support farm sustainability initiatives and biosecurity measures.
  • Monitor environmental conditions and make necessary adjustments for livestock well-being.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and repair of farm equipment and housing structures.
  • Contribute to research and development projects aimed at improving swine productivity and welfare.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance farm efficiency and safety practices.
  • Maintain strong communication with farm management regarding operational updates and challenges.
